Cellulite is the dimples that most women and some men have on the skin of the buttocks and thighs. This occurs when the fibrous connective tissue pushes the fat cells outward, so that the lumps of it protrude instead of being evenly distributed under the skin.

Since about 90 percent of women obviously have it, hormones play a role in cellulite. It is also genetically inherited, and is believed to be caused in part by stress, toxin deposition, poor blood circulation, chronic low-level inflammation, and excessive water retention.

Exercising daily, drinking water regularly, eating a healthy diet, abstaining from yo-yo fad diets, speeding up your metabolism, and managing stress are probably the most important steps in dealing with cellulite.

Essential oils to treat cellulite

Essential and massage oils can make a contribution to your cellulite by increasing blood flow to and from the affected area, reducing stress, building collagen, helping to excrete toxins, increasing metabolism, decreasing inflammation, and preventing storage of excess water.


Mineral is best known as a scalp tonic, but it also contains chemicals that can decrease inflammation, increase urination, and increase blood flow, thus addressing three causes of cellulite. It also contains calcium, potassium and zinc, three minerals that some medical treatments deposit under the skin to help break down the fat from cellulite.

Fennel oil

Many essential oil users believe that fennel oil is a powerful detoxification agent that can remove toxins, either by cleaning the intestines, or by removing them from the skin for excretion. Others believe that it can increase estrogen, which, in turn, increases the production of collagen under the skin that strengthens your connective tissue to support the weight of fat cells properly.

Citrus oils

Any citrus oil with its abundant levels of vitamin C can make a contribution to cellulite. The Vitamin C helps build collagen to strengthen connective tissue under the skin to prevent bending under the weight of the fat cells. Citrus oils can also improve blood circulation. These oils include grapefruit, lemon, orange, lime, and tangerine. Citrus oils are also some of the best essential oils for wrinkles.

Rosemary oil

The rosemary oil can remove toxins and improve blood circulation in the area where cellulite appears.

Clary sage oil

This oil is believed to balance hormones, fight stress, improve relaxation, reduce inflammation, and give your skin a softer, smoother texture, thereby addressing various causes of cellulite. Clary sage oil is also one of the best essential oils for wrinkles.

Cypress oil

Cypress oil is one of the best essential oils for skin care: it improves blood circulation, promotes the excretion of toxins, removes excess water, and promotes relaxation, and is therefore a cellulite treatment.

Geranium oil

This oil often appears in cellulite creams, as it is believed to balance hormones and improve skin tone. You can also use geranium to treat acne and eczema.

Cinnamon oil

This oil strengthens connective tissue by building collagen, tightens the skin, increases circulation, removes impurities from your body, and provides the skin with magnesium and calcium that even some medical treatments use to melt cellulite. You can make cinnamon oil at home to enjoy its many health benefits.

Peppermint oil

This peppermint oil is very versatile; it increases your metabolism and increases blood circulation.

Other natural substances to reduce cellulite

Apple vinegar. The vinegar cider contains minerals such as calcium, potassium and magnesium which many believe may help you lose weight and fat metabolism.

Cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper can be used as a natural medicine and can also speed up your metabolism.

Epsom salts and algae. The Epsom salts eliminates the accumulation of toxins in the skin, and algae appear to increase blood flow and improve skin texture.

Essential oil blends for cellulite

Exfoliating massage oil for cellulite

  • 1/4 cup olive oil.
  • 3 tablespoons powdered seaweed.
  • 3 tablespoons of coarse sea salt.
  • 10 drops of grapefruit / grapefruit essential oil.

Massage this mixture into the area for 10 minutes before showering. After showering, apply a moisturizer of your choice. This mixture will not only increase blood circulation to the area, but it will also open the pores to ensure proper toxin excretion.

The simplest oil blend for cellulite

  • 1/4 cup sweet almond or olive oil.
  • 15 drops of cinnamon oil.

Massage with this mixture on the affected area for 10 minutes twice a day. As your blood circulation improves and your new collagen begins to form, your skin will become firmer and cellulite will reduce.

Relaxing bath with oils for cellulite

  • 4 drops of geranium oil for hormonal regulation.
  • 4 drops of juniper oil to increase circulation and urination and decrease inflammation.
  • 4 drops of sage oil for relaxation, hormonal regulation, and reduction of inflammation.
  • 4 drops of citrus oil for collagen production.

Add the mixture of a tablespoon or two of a carrier oil of your choice (such as sweet almond or jojoba oil), and add all this to your bath water mixing it properly. Soak in the bathroom with a good novel and some relaxing music then go to bed to sleep.

Balanced Oil Blend for Cellulite

This combination of citrus, sage, juniper, and geranium oils is also a perfect blend to keep in a bottle and apply to cellulite two or three times a day. Mix as follows:

  • Half a cup of sweet almonds, coconut or olive oil.
  • 10 drops of geranium oil.
  • 10 drops of juniper oil.
  • 10 drops of sage oil.
  • 10 drops of any citrus oil.

If you want to put this mixture on before heading out into the sun, replace the citrus oil with cinnamon bark oil for the same effect, but without the sun damage.

Massage to fight cellulite

A firm massage is the key, as it increases blood flow to and from the affected area.

Mix a few drops of one of the essential oils that have been mentioned with a tablespoon of carrier oil (such as coconut oil or jojoba oil).

Massage in semicircles in and around the cellulite, ending the semicircle with a blow to your heart to draw blood, toxins and fat away from the area. Do this for at least 10 minutes every day, or more if you can.
